Hi, I'm Val!

I'm a tattoo artist at Speakeasy Tattoo in Mobile, Alabama. I am focusing on traditional, neotraditional, and illustrative tattooing. I love working with color, and drawing cats, florals, and anything cute.

Outside of tattooing, I work quite a lot with various media. I am proficient in gouache, oil painting, watercolor, and digital art (namely Procreate and Photoshop.)

If you care to hear more about my personal life, this is the paragraph to read. I was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana and moved to Amarillo, Texas when I was 5. I lived there for the next 12 years until I graduated high school and went to study Illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design. I graduated in 2020, the class of the pandemic, and am currently based in Mobile, Alabama.

To brag a bit about myself: I graduated from Ringling with honors and a 3.7 GPA. I was selected as one of seven artists to participate in the Ringling College Library Association project and I created a travel poster for author Rick Steves. I also participated in the Ringling Museum Blossoms Event, where I was selected to do a three-hour still life in the Ringling Museum Rose Garden to be auctioned off for charity. In both 2019 and 2020 I was featured in the Best of Ringling, a gallery exhibition where the best pieces from each major are displayed on campus for an open gallery event. Additionally, my sketchbook was selected for my college's "Illest of Illustration" gallery show. Before the start of the pandemic, I had plans to complete a character design internship with Disney Creative Group in Kissimee, FL. This was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19, but has led me into learning how to tattoo under my mentors, Suzette Callahan and Tyler Johnson.

Currently I am focusing on growing my tattoo clientele and learning everything I can about my craft. Although graduating in the midst of the pandemic has been very challenging and not something I ever thought I'd have to face, I am excited for what the future may bring.
